Useing search facilities.

            1. Simple name search.
            2. Advanced Search.

We will enter the surname Appleton and leave the first name blank .

After entering the surname click on Search to see the result of the search, as below.

The result gives us links to matches 1 to 40 for last name equals appleton. Clicking on the individual links will take you to the details about that individual.

2. Advanced search

When you take a good look at Advanced Search you will find that it is not only possible to limit or expand the number of matches found, but you can use the Advanced Search to query by just about any event in your database. Choose whether the data "starts with", "ends with", "equals" or "contains" your search terms, or match by Soundex or metaphones. Use date ranges, plus show names of spouses if desired! Even decide whether to join all criteria with "AND" or "OR".

For the sake of this demonstration we will keep it simple. If you scroll down you will find we have entered the nickname Bill in the NICKNAME search field.

Click on the SEARCH box above for the result of the search.

As you can see the search has found one person in the database with the nickname Bill, and that is William John Appleton.

3. General searches.

Whilst browsing Photographs, Notes, Sources and Place List, you are able to carry out a search using names, places, dates etc, etc. For this exercise we will search for photographs by name. In the image below you will see that we have entered the search name appleton in the search box. If you now click on the Search box to the right of the entered name appleton, you will see the result of the search.

The search has found 60 photographs with the name Appleton associated and shows the first 50. This clip shows the first 10.

We could have made a search for photgraphs with the date 1918 associated, or the place name Bexley. This type of search can be made whilst browsing Notes, Sources and Place List also.
